Cosmetic Getaway in Mexico

How do you get plastic surgery in Mexico? Where can you find affordable reconstructive surgery in Mexico? And take a medical vacation in Mexico?

People come from everywhere to Lake Chapala in Jalisco, Mexico to receive esthetic surgery and benefit from our before, during, and aftercare.

Our vetting of the professionals serving the largest expat community outside of the US is by Deborah VanArsdel, who made her career in healthcare evaluation and regulation. She interviewed the best known surgeons and observed their offices and clinics. Our caregivers rival those of anywhere in the world.

Medical tourism to India and dental vacations to Costa Rica are likewise growing—as are the costs of getting and staying there. With DocTours, you will likely find everything from face lifts to breast lifts much more affordable. With the Dollar to Peso exchange rate skyrocketing, your dollar goes a very long way here.

In their home countries, Americans and Canadians can save by turning to a surgeon who charges less. Or, they can fly south. A price much lower than what’s charged in the US and Canada does not make the Mexican surgeon equivalent to a less expensive American or Canadian one. Rather, it means that almost all goods and services cost less in Mexico. There, one can hire a DocTours surgeon as talented as one anywhere, pay far less, and receive treatment that's as good as it gets.

And in Lake Chapala, you can experience a bit of home away from home. If you've already decided but need to know how to get plastic surgery in Mexico, you’ve come to the right site. We’re here to help you find affordable esthetic surgery while taking a medical vacation.

She interviewed the best-known surgeons and observed their offices and clinics.

Cosmetic Surgery Treatments Costs
in USA v. Mexico

Some of the procedures below are for both women and men. Some, of course, are not. The prices typically include:

  • surgeon's fee
  • O.R. fee
  • anesthesiologist fee
  • implants for augmentation procedures
  • pre-op physical, lab work and clearance for surgery

Any surgery has associated risk factors. Since we are dealing with your body and your life, it is extremely important that your wellbeing and safety come before all else. It is a standard of safe medical practice with our DocTour surgeons, to ensure you are healthy enough to have surgery with the least risk. A pre-operative physical, lab work and clearance for surgery by a general practitioner and/or cardiologist will be required. For legal reasons and so your surgeon can consult with the physician(s) performing these exams, they must be done in Mexico. We'll make all the arrangements for you.

Depending on the procedure you choose, DocTours' prices include one overnight stay in a private facility with 24 hour nursing care, before returning to your lodging with us. An additional one- or two-day stay in the private facility is required for procedures marked with an asterisk (*), at an additional fee of $175 per day. All cosmetic surgery patients are required to have a pre-operative physical, cardiac clearance, and blood work in Mexico per Mexican medical standards of practice. The cost of $180 is included in your deposit.

"If you are considering plastic surgery, you ought to know about this doctor. Last fall, he performed a tummy tuck on me. He also gave me a complete facelift. The results were astounding. I look completely natural and much younger."

Our Surgeons

Our affordable plastic surgeons have skills that meet North American standards. They:

  • use a combination of proven techniques and state-of-the-art technologies, and
  • operate in rooms specifically designed and equipped for plastic surgery.
The US State Department includes some in their roster of Plastic Surgeons.

Our surgeons enjoy the best reputations in the large expat community on the shores of Lake Chapala.

Our clients receive the treatment that they are accustomed to—but at prices they can afford.

All DocTours surgeons have the requisite training, degrees, licenses, and credentials. Many received their advanced degrees from the Autonomous University of Jalisco at Guadalajara, one of the best in the Western Hemisphere, many recently completed facilities. Our surgeons have experience in Mexico and abroad, attend conferences with their peers, and subscribe to academic journals. They are members of professional societies such as ISAPS (International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons), AMCPER (Asociación Mexicana de Cirugía Plástica, Estética y Reconstructiva), FILACP (Ibero-Latin American Federation of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery), and IPRAS (International Confederation of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery).

Some have published articles or have a local luminary as a patient. The US State Department includes some in their roster of Plastic Surgeons. All have "hospital privileges", meaning they have been approved to practice medicine in hospitals and outpatient clinics in Guadalajara.

Our surgeons inform you about:

  • your anesthesiologist
  • how long surgery will take
  • risks and possible complications
  • any discomfort you can expect
  • any post-op instructions and medications you may need
  • how long the recovery should take
  • how long the results can be expected to last

DocTours makes sure that you are fully aware of all the realities of esthetic surgery, both in general and in your particular case.

By training, culture, and personality, they make you feel totally at ease. You'll feel comfortable asking questions any time. If you are bringing a friend or family member along, that person will be made to feel welcome and may join you during your consultation. Some insurers offer and some businesses purchase plans that cover medical tourism, some of which cover the cost (both travel and lodging!) of your traveling companion. (Ask your boss.)

"The doctor reconstructed my chin, as it was causing me discomfort. The experience that I had, regarding the procedure, has been the most satisfactory. It has already given me the confidence, calmness, and security that I had lacked."

"In 2016 I made the decision to give myself a chin implant. I visited the doctor and he performed the surgery. I was impressed by his professionalism and am enchanted with the results. I am utterly grateful to the doctor. He has succeeded in changing both my physical and my emotional life.”"
Gabriela

Our 7 Step Process

  1. Tell us which cosmetic surgery procedure(s) you'd like and what time frame you'd like to spend in Lake Chapala, bearing in mind most treatments require two weeks (some longer), on our Intake Form. In the space provided (text box), assess your current appearance and describe the new look you intend to achieve. Attach photos from different angles of the targeted surgical area(s). We convey that basic information to the surgeon who best suits your particular needs and determine the surgeon’s availability.

  2. We reply via email with:
    1. the surgeon's assessment, presented in layman's language; bear in mind that some willing patients are not good candidates for elective surgery and would be declined;
    2. an estimate of the total cost of your all-inclusive package based on the cost of your surgery, overnight hospitalization for one to three nights, any lab fees, followup appointments including stitch removal, plus your projected time as a guest with us; and
    3. the dates our surgeons are available to re-sculpt your look.

  3. Respond with your choice of one of the available dates—starting usually a month out from your initial contact (Step 1, above)—or request other dates. Your initial appointment will normally be a month out. It is necessary to arrive at least two days prior to surgery to ensure enough time for your initial consultation, lab work, and rest, or even earlier if you want to enjoy some fun outings before your surgery.

  4. To reserve your appointment date(s), make a down payment of $1,255. For details on DocTour services such as transportation, lodging, meals, etc, see the next section below. For information on our refund policy, see our Concierge Tourism Agreement, paragraph 11.
    Type your deposit amount here:
To submit, click  Thanks. The availability of your surgeon and operating room can change rapidly; a timely response locks in your preferred date.
  1. Upon receiving our confirmation, make your travel arrangements. You must arrive in Mexico on the Saturday BEFORE the surgery, to ensure adequate pre-op time. Forward us your itinerary. Make sure your passport has at least six months before expiration..

  2. Once you have become a patient, your surgeon will want to know as much about your overall condition as you can provide. Fill out the Health History form. Email your medical records with your current health status and diagnoses (in totally secure privacy). Or bring them with you if your home doctor can't send them.

  3. The balance of your bill is due at your first appointment. At that appointment, your surgeon performs a thorough exam and consults with you (in layman's language), informing you what he-or-she discovers. Remember, your photos may not tell the whole story. Upon examination, the estimate may change slightly to reflect your actual needs. However, there should not be any surprises.

Due to the fees for using a credit card or converting currency, we ask you to use PayPal again (as above) or transfer funds electronically or withdraw pesos. Your debit card is good at any Mexican ATM, even at a Mexican bank if it partners up with a US bank. Advise your bank that you will be using your cards in Mexico to keep them activated..

"She connected with the surgeon, saying, 'We laughed all the way through my interview.' She had her eyes and neck done. 'I don’t want to be 25 again, but I wouldn't mind going for 45 or 55,' she said with a wink!"
